John Peels Online Music Collection

“John Peel’s family, The John Peel Centre for the Creative Arts, Eye Film and TV, and website company Klik, are working together to create an online archive of John Peel’s record collection, including specially created videos of key artists, John Peel’s home movies, John’s hand-typed note cards, and other content.

John Peel’s personal record collection consists of over 26,000 LPs, 40,000 singles and many thousands of CDs.

Dandelion Radio are not allowed, due to the terms of their licenses, to publish playlists of their programs until a month after the original broadcast hence having to wait until this month to put the Festive 50 2011 play list together.

You have until 30 November 2011 to vote in this years Festive Fifty run by Dandelion Radio. The website states:

“Vote for your three favourite tracks from the past year, in order of preference. In theory they could be anything, but tracks played on Dandelion Radio (including session tracks and live recordings) or on BBC Radio 1′s special interest shows are what you should have in mind.”

Festive 50 Number 22 1997 – The Secret Goldfish – Dandelion Milk Summer

Dandelion Milk Summer, taken from the EP of the same name the previous year, was the bands only entry in the Festive 50. You can read more about the band here.

All Time Festive 50′s

The Festive Fifty began as an all-time chart. (1976, 78, 79, 80 and 81 were all-time charts.) Two all-time charts have been compiled in additional to yearly charts, once in 1982 and again in 2000 (to celebrate the millennium).

Festive 50 Number 16 1995 – Dreadzone – Fight The Power

One of six entries the band had in 1995′s festive 50. The song was in response to the Criminal Justice Act which was created to make unlicensed raves illegal. 16 years on and nothing changes!

The band are still going and a compilation album was released back in May which features this track albeit in a shortened form.
